Minda Files redacts a PDF in your browser: type the words or phrases to hide, or pick email addresses, phone numbers and card numbers, and press Redact PDF. Each match is covered in black and its page becomes a picture, so the words cannot be copied or found again. Nothing is uploaded, and it is free with no account.
How to redact a PDF
- Drop a PDF on the page, or press Choose a file.
- Type the words or phrases to black out, one a line, or pick the kinds to find.
- Press Redact PDF, then download the redacted PDF.
- For good a page with a match is made a picture with the black boxes on it: its words are gone, not hidden under a box.
- Finds words and phrases in any case, email addresses, phone numbers, and card numbers that pass the card check.
- Not searched scanned pages, whose words are a picture, and form fields, comments and the file’s properties.
Questions
Is a redacted PDF safe to share?
For the words it found, yes: each page with a match is replaced by a picture of the page with black boxes, so those words cannot be copied, searched or uncovered. Look over the result before you share it, since words in a scan are not found.
How do I black out text in a PDF for free?
Open Redact PDF in Minda Files, drop the PDF, type the words to hide and press Redact PDF. It runs in your browser with no account.
Can it find every email address or phone number?
Pick Email addresses, Phone numbers or Card numbers and it finds them by their pattern on every page with text, with no list to type.
Is Minda Files free?

Are my files uploaded?
No. The tools and the editor run online in your browser; your file is not sent to a server. Only Ask AI sends what you ask, and the text of the file it needs, to Minda AI; PDF to PowerPoint sends a picture page or a picture only when you turn on Read picture pages, and Translate PDF the words it translates.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Minda Files works in your web browser: open the page, drop a file and it opens there.
